The School of Foreign Language Studies, formerly English Department of Ningbo College, was established in 2005. It consists of English Major T& R Section, Japanese Major T& R Section, German Major T& R Section and Non-English Major T& R Section. The School takes its major task to train students both in language proficiency and sufficient knowledge in western cultures and foreign trade so as to meet the demands of the society and the future world. Now there are 1140 students, of whom 763 major in English, 215 major in Japanese and 162 major in German. Besides, the school is also responsible for the teaching of College English for the 8000 students in other schools of the university.
Currently, the School consists of 82 faculty and staff members, including 3 professors, 15 associate professors, 3 of whom have doctoral degree and 48 master degree. Each year, a number of teachers are selected and sent abroad for further studies. Up to now, the teachers who are back from abroad account for 40 % of the total teaching staff.
The School is equipped with up-to-date teaching facilities, including 1 simultaneous interpretation lab, 1 net language lab, 8 digital language labs, 1 radio station for language teaching, dozens of multi-functional classrooms, a sound recording room and 1 staff library.
